BESTeam Feature: sandyvern - Sandy's Handmade Soaps and Things
This week we introduce you to: Sandy's Handmade Soaps and Things.
Sandy's Soaps are made from scratch using the old-fashioned cold process method of combining various oils, butters, and lye in just the right amounts to create a luxurious soap that she is proud to offer to you. Her soap is made in very small batches for quality control over the entire process. After curing for 4 - 6 weeks, she hand-cuts and individually packages each soap.
Vanilla Bar Soap
Sandy's Things are other items she creates including whipped shea butter, lotion bars, lip balms, stitch markers and earrings.
Stitch Markers
And Now An Interview With Sandyvern...
How did you get started?
Making soap...I got started because I was looking to do something as a thank you to all my pet sitting customers for Christmas...that wouldn't break the bank of a small business owner.
Tell us how you decided on your shop name.
Sadly I did not put much time into the thought of a shop name because I had already had a user name for Etsy for purchase before I started selling stuff...and then over time I just kept adding things to my shop...so Sandy's Soaps & Things became a good catch all :-)

How did you feel the first time someone actually paid money for something you had made?
LOVED IT!!! It was so cool to think that someone wanted to pay me money for something I made ;-) It is rather addicting!!
How do you handle your family life while creating from home?
My life gets a little hectic now and then with pet sitting jobs all over the place and so I try and "relax" by crafting in between running from one job to the other.
Handknit Washcloths
Any advice you would like to share with a newbie who may be reading this?
Just do it! Ya never really know who will want to pay for something you make...there are a lot of people out there who are not 'crafty' or have never tried to be crafty and are willing to pay to have what you made.

On to our interview...
How did you get started? At the encouragement of family and friends, I decided in September 2009 to share my passion for jewelry with others and I've been selling my creations ever since.
Tell us how you decided on your shop name. Elle is my nickname
Where do you create? I've carved out space in my dining room for my beads and sewing machine.
How did you feel the first time someone actually paid money for something you had made? The first person to buy from me was a friend. It felt great to have someone show their support that way.
What inspires you to create your products? A desire to make something beautiful with my hands, color, pieces of old jewelry that can be recycled, etc.
Where can you be found online?
Etsy: http://www.ellesbeads.etsy.com/
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ellesbeads
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ellexmarie
Ellebeads is making new jewelry and accessories all the time and would be happy to create a custom piece for you! Her pieces make excellent gifts for teens, young adults, and the young at heart. If you don't find exactly what you're looking for, please contact Elle and she'll be happy to help you out!
Any advice you would like to share with a newbie who may be reading this? Running a successful Etsy shop takes a lot of time and money. It can be a rewarding experience, but do your homework and make sure you know what you're getting into.
